Zoho Writer

Zoho office has a writer program. I decided to test its capabilities using it to test entering a blog item from Zoho Writer.

Thinking of Using Open Source - Step One Is A Needs Assessment

It's hard not to be aware of the increasing availability of open source, often free, software. But is it a good choice. It's also not uncommon to think that open source isn't serious and ready for the business world. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, open source can be a way to use the latest technology without the expense of commercial products putting SMB's on an even field with the big guys.

Postbooks

Since I appreciate free and open source software I have started using Postbooks from xTuple for my own business.

The set up was a breeze, download the installer, run the installer, all set! I chose the quick start option that started me out with some lists populated briefly. The installation was a breeze on Ubuntu. xTuple now appears in my applications menu. From there you choose xTuple ERP to run the program. The top of the screen reads:

xTuple ERP; PostBooks Edition 3.2.2 - Quick Start DB on localhost/quickstart

CRM Online Zoho Style

Company Resource Management has many components in Zoho. I entered a lead. As well as  common contact fields the form had fields for annual revenue, number of employees, campaign, source. When I came to campaign I was able to enter a new one that I called Contacting Contacts. Once the lead was in the system I could add attachments, tasks, events, products, emails and notes. I added a task to make a telephone call to the lead.

Online Invoices, CRM and more with Zoho

I am experimenting with an on-line information technology solution called Zoho. Today I invoiced a customer. First I imported the customers I had set up in Zoho's CRM, added the items I was going to be billing for, produced an invoice and emailed it to the customer. It really was quite slick. And my invoice has a paypal link.
